Over 200 thousand people participated in the Victory Day events in Perm

Perm marked the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War with large-scale celebrations. During the Victory Parade in Oktyabrskaya Square the veterans were greeted by a pilot of a MiG-31. Almost 30 thousand citizens joined the Immortal Regiment march, with Governor Victor Basargin and People’s Artist Oleg Gazmanov being among the participants. More than 200 thousand people took part in the celebrations held in the city esplanade.

Perm marked the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War with special events, with the Victory Parade that involved a great number of troops and units of military hardware being the main one. It was for the first time that the Parade had seen a fly-past of military aviation – 4 MiG-31s flew over Oktyabrskaya Square, with Senior Lieutenant of the air group Bogdan Kupradze greeting the veterans right from the cockpit during the live transmission. Some 15 thousand people saw Perm garrison column in Oktyabrskaya Square while other 8 thousand lined along Komsomolsky Prospekt from Oktyabrskaya Square to the Central Universal Department Store. Delegations from Perm’s sister cities – Oxford and Qingdao – also attended the Victory Parade.

The Immortal Regiment march saw a record number of participants of 30 thousand people: among those who joined it was the honored guest of the city, People’s Artist Oleg Gazmanov. The column marched from Oktyabrskaya Square to Perm Academic Theatre. Another one thousand people joined the Immortal Shopfloor column – an action held to honor home front workers.

At noon main celebratory activities shifted to the city esplanade: a celebratory concert started on the stage near Perm Academic Theater and a number of interactive sites at the Monument to Heroes of War and Home Front attracted visitors of all years of age while in the evening Perm citizens were able to enjoy a concert by Oleg Gazmanov. Overall, approximately 200 thousand people are reported to have joined the Victory Days events in Perm.

The Victory day celebrations closed with musical fireworks that could be watched from 2 view sites – at Soldatov Palace of Culture and Carl Marx Square. These two sites alone gathered some 20 thousand people watching the light and music fireworks show.
